Do What You Say You Are Going To Do

Do What You Say You Are Going To Do

Do what you say you are going to do.

There is great power and value in being the type of person that does what they say they are going to do. Although this concept may seem simple, it has implications for every aspect of a person's life.

Achieving goals, having thriving relationships, and becoming the person that you want to become, all start with doing what you say you are going to do. The smallest actions compounded over time create your future.

For example, say you want to get fit and healthy. You have this idea of the person that you want to become that does not currently match the person that you are. In order to become that person, you must set a goal and then take small steps everyday to get there. You tell yourself, “in the morning I will wake up and go to the gym”. It’s a great plan, and at that moment you probably do want to go to the gym. Then the morning comes. Your alarm goes off and that extra hour of sleep sounds way more appealing in the moment. You don’t feel as if you have anything to lose by making that small decision, so you don’t move any closer to the goal that you have made.

In another scenario, you are planning out your day tomorrow and want to go to the gym. As you are making this decision, you pull out your phone and schedule an hour for the gym in the morning. You tell yourself “I am the type of person that does what I say I am going to do.” The next morning, your alarm goes off, you throw on your favorite pair of LRX shorts and hoodie, and because you have already identified yourself with the type of person that keeps their word, you get out of bed and do the hard thing that will ultimately make you better in the long run.

Being this type of person will allow you to grow your relationships by committing to checking in on friends and family members and following through. You will be the person that does well on that exam because you told yourself that you would study for 2 extra hours. You will be the person that finishes that challenging work project, simply because you told yourself that you would. You will be able to respond with grace and kindness in difficult conversations because you told yourself prior that you would.

Ultimately, you cannot let outside circumstances dictate your decisions. Although there are plenty of things in this world that are out of our control, we still have the power to follow through, keep our word, and do the hard things in life.

At LRX, we believe in the constant pursuit of progress. We see the value in doing the things that we commit ourselves to in order to become the best version of ourselves. If you can relate to our mission and vision, we invite you to become a part of our growing community.
